Bill Harrison – Arizona Prospectors – Searching for the Mother Lode

Menu – Meatloaf, Mashed Potatoes, Corn, Dessert & Beverage by Jeff & Vicky

Program – Arizona Prospectors – Searching for the Mother Lode – Gold fever has turned many a sane person into a starry-eyed prospector seeking the mythical Mother Lode. Very few prospectors died rich. Many found gold and other valuable minerals, but they quickly sold their claims, celebrated with euphoric abandon, and then returned to the wilderness to seek the next big bonanza. This presentation not only explores the world of prospecting, but it also introduces three legendary prospectors who left their permanent mark on Arizona.  George Warren discovered a vast copper deposit in Bisbee. He became a millionaire, lost all his money in a single bet, and was declared insane. Ed Schieffelin got rich from the silver he found in Tombstone. He became famous and tried to live a respectable life, but the call of the wild was too strong. He left behind his wife and fortune and died in a lonely mountain cabin. Nellie Cashman had an incurable gold fever! Unlike other prospectors, Nellie not only invested her money in successful restaurants and boarding houses, but she was also a philanthropist who helped build several churches and hospitals.
