Bill Harrison – Sundae Best! A Delicious History of Arizona Soda Shops
Menu – Baked Ziti w/meat sauce, Salad, Breadstick, Dessert & Beverage by Jeff & Vicky.
Program – Sundae Best – The Delicious History of Arizona Soda Shops – Soda shops have been a delightful part of Arizona history for more than 150 years. Ice cream confections and delicious, sweet treats brought joy and comfort to a diverse population. The growth of these popular businesses was positively affected by urbanization, World War I, Prohibition of alcohol, The Great Depression, and World War II. Unfortunately, technology and a more mobile society, caused these iconic American establishments to nearly vanish from the American landscape. During our journey we will visit four soda shops that played colorful roles in Arizona’s history. We’ll stop at Mr. D’z Route 66 Diner in Kingman, Delgadillo’s Snow Cap in Seligman, Fred Fleishmann & Co. Soda Fountain in Tucson, and finally we’ll enjoy a scrumptious banana split at MacAlpine’s Diner and Soda Fountain in Phoenix. Purchase dinner & program tickets by April 3. Program tickets by April 8 at 5PM.
